Schrodinger's Mouse is focused on hard science fiction and science fiction exploring philosophical or ethical themes. Here you will find new and upcoming authors writing short stories in the genre personified by Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov in his Foundation Series, Phillip K. Dick in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and Robert Heinlein’s Stranger in a Strange Land.
We are accepting author submissions and queries for poetry, flash fiction, short stories, serial publication, novellas, and novels with a hard or ethical science fiction theme. We are also open to Steampunk, Cyberpunk and Dark Science Fiction with a hard science or ethical focus.
Other submission guidelines: Currently, we are not accepting queries for fantasy, or YA. In addition, we are not interested works with gratuitous sex or violence. Finally, please do not submit simultaneous submissions or previously published works.
Finally, we are always looking for new artists and illustrators.
Currently we are accepting author submissions and queries and reading manuscripts on a rolling basis. Queries can be submitted using the query form (Click on the Submit your Query button above). You can expect queries to be reviewed and responded to within one week (most of the time within 48 hours). For queries we are interested in we will respond to the query with a request for the author to email the full manuscript. Time to review the manuscript depends on the size of the manuscript.
Submission guidelines: Manuscripts should be in .doc, .docx, .pdf, .rtf, or .txt format. Word count for consideration are: up to 2000 words for flash fiction, up to 7500 words for short stories, up to 17500 words for novellas, and a minimum of 50,000 for novels. Depending on their size, novellas and novels may be broken up for serialization.
Our first publication, a compilation of poetry, flash fiction, and short stories is planned for 3rd or 4th quarter 2021. This project will be published in print, and electronic versions. Although accepted pieces may be published in part or in full on our website or other websites for promotional purposes (e.g. Patreon, Facebook, or Blog post). Time required for publishing novellas, novels, and serial publications may vary depending on the size of the project.
